MSG is proud to introduce the latest addition to our fleet: the 28’ Research Vessel (R.V.) Binkley. Named in memory of Jeffrey Binkley, whose impactful career centered on contaminated sediment management and aquatic restoration across the Midwest and Great Lakes region. In honor of Jeff, this vessel symbolizes MSG’s commitment to advancing aquatic research and environmental stewardship.
Crafted with care and innovation, this new vessel offers the perfect platform for conducting research and sampling in diverse aquatic ecosystems. From rivers to estuaries, inland lakes to the vast expanses of the Great Lakes and near-shore marine environments, this vessel ensures safe, stable operations in every setting.
R.V Binkley features two 28-foot long 36-inch polyethylene pontoons with an aluminum platform frame, center helm, sturdy rails, and twin sponsons. Its two 60 HP Mercury Outboard motors enable seamless navigation through various environments and conditions. It is also equipped with a 29-foot long telescoping hydraulic autocrane with 2,000 lb. lift capacity and an Ocean Instruments submersible RIC 5500 vibracore unit attached to a 3,000 lb high-speed winch line.
To us at MSG, R.V. Binkley stands as a beacon of progress, strengthening our scientific capabilities and our capacity as stewards of our nation’s waters.
We plan to celebrate R.V. Binkley’s christening in honor of the life of its exceptional namesake later this year.
